Description:
This is the weapon that changed medieval warfare. Before the age of gunpowder, the pole axe was the great equalizer—a brutal, efficient tool that allowed a common foot soldier to stand toe-to-toe with a mounted, armored knight. It gave the man on foot the reach to strike first and the crushing force to end the fight. The American Tomahawk Company's Pole Axe (Model 89PA) is a faithful, battle-ready interpretation of this legendary weapon. The head is expertly drop-forged from 1055 high-carbon steel—a tough, durable material that holds a wicked edge and withstands repeated impact. The wickedly sharp axe blade and the brutal, armor-crushing hammer head are differentially heat-treated, leaving the "business" ends of the weapon hard and the body slightly softer to absorb shock and impact—a detail that ensures the weapon won't shatter under heavy use. Opposite the blade, a sturdy, squared hammer head delivers devastating blunt force capable of caving in plate armor or shattering a shield. The head is securely mounted to a long, straight-grain hickory handle—the same heavy-duty American hardwood used on the finest axes and tomahawks. Steel langets run down the haft, reinforcing the wood against shearing blows and ensuring the head stays firmly in place even after years of use. This is not a wall-hanger. This is a functional piece of historical weaponry—a two-handed tomahawk on steroids. With superior reach and armor-shattering force, the pole axe was the "heavy machine-gun of its day" on the medieval battlefield. Ready for display, reenactment, or the arena.
