Description:

Before the katana became the soul of the samurai, the yari was the backbone of Japan's armies. This is the weapon that broke cavalry charges, held shield walls, and decided the fate of clans on feudal battlefields. The yari demanded immense skill to wield effectively — its length and weight made it a weapon of precision, not brute force. This long-bladed Yari by Paul Chen for CAS Hanwei is a faithful reproduction of the su-yari (straight-spear) design. Its blade is forged from T10 high-carbon steel, a material prized for its edge retention and durability. The blade features a straight, triangulated, double-edged geometry with a deep hi (fuller) running along the flat side — a traditional feature that reduces weight without compromising structural integrity. The tang extends deep into the shaft to absorb the shock of impact, and the one-piece staff construction reinforces the durability of the spear. The shaft (ebu) is finished in a deep textured black lacquer with a flattened side at the bottom section for blade orientation. The fittings (koshirae) follow distinctive traditional designs, making this yari aesthetically pleasing as well as functional. This version features a 16.75-inch blade, offering greater reach and authority than its shorter-bladed counterpart. It is provided with a black lacquered wooden sheath (saya) for safe storage and transport. The Yari by Paul Chen is a visually stunning piece of functional art — a connection to the bushi of feudal Japan, crafted with the care and attention to detail that made Paul Chen's name synonymous with quality historical reproductions. Please note that the stand is not included, just the spear and sheath
