Description:
The Dadao, or "Big Knife," is one of the most recognizable Chinese swords—a heavy, two-handed broadsword with a weight-forward blade designed for powerful chopping motions. This specific model, made in Dalian by CAS Hanwei, is a well-crafted reproduction that captures the presence and historical character of the original. The blade is wide, single-edged, and curves slightly upward toward a broad, clipped tip. A narrow fuller runs along the spine to reduce weight without sacrificing structural strength, and a small hole is drilled near the tip—historically used for hanging the weapon or attaching secondary rings. The sword is equipped with an S-shaped brass crossguard and a brass collar at the base of the blade. The exceptionally long hilt allows for a comfortable two-handed grip and is tightly wrapped in vibrant red cord for a secure, slip-resistant hold. The handle terminates in a traditional steel ring pommel. Attached to this ring is a long, flowing red fabric tassel, which was traditionally used in martial arts to distract opponents, obscure the blade's precise movements, and absorb sweat to keep the handle clean. This piece comes with a nylon scabbard and is in great condition—a solid addition to any collection of Chinese arms.
