The sugarloaf helmet, with its sphero-conical dome, was the evolution of the great helm—a 13th-century design built to deflect strikes from above. When combined with the structural integrity of spangenhelm construction, it became a fortress for the head, favoured by knights and men-at-arms who expected to be targeted. This Crusader-style sugarloaf helmet captures that fusion of function and legacy. Crafted from heavy-duty 16-gauge carbon steel, this helmet features a riveted multi-plate dome, offering exceptional durability and deflection. The lower face is fitted with a distinctive cross-perforated plate, creating a bold visual signature that echoes the iconography of the Crusader orders. The steel has been given an aged, antiqued finish, adding depth and character. Inside, the helmet is lined with leather for comfort and a secure fit. Heavy-duty rivets secure the plates. Some very minor rust spots are present on the surface, consistent with storage.
