The Eagle of Rome Gladius is a reproduction inspired by classical Roman motifs and cinematic design, built with the craftsmanship Windlass Steelcrafts is known for. It captures the spirit of the Roman legionary's sidearm—a compact, balanced sword designed for close-quarters thrusting—while adding decorative elements that make it a striking display piece. The hilt is the centerpiece. At the top, a distinct sculpted eagle head is cast in solid metal with a dark, antiqued finish. The grip features an anatomically grooved pattern for secure finger placement, stained in a deep brown wood tone. The guard is a rounded, burgundy-finished block, accented with a bright red decorative tassel. The sword is housed in a custom wooden scabbard wrapped tightly in textured black leather. The top collar and bottom chape feature heavily embossed, antiqued brass plating, with reliefs depicting intricate classical imagery—Roman soldiers, shields, and standard bearers. A central medallion features an ornate circular wreath emblem framing a sigil. Two decorative leather suspension bands wrap around the scabbard, attaching to a long, dark leather shoulder sling (baldric) via functional metal loops. The internal blade is a Mainz-style gladius profile, hand-forged from tempered high-carbon steel, tapering slightly in the waist before swelling back outward to a broad point.
