Description:

This is an antiqued reproduction of a 17th-century European main gauche—the parrying dagger carried in the left hand by fencing masters and duelists of the era. This specific model is the Gustav II, produced by Hanwei, and it captures the distinctive silhouette and dark, museum-quality finish of the originals. The hilt features an oval, flattened pommel and curved, S-shaped quillons, a design historically used to catch and trap an opponent's blade during fencing. The entire metal guard and pommel are treated with a darkened faux patina that gives it an aged, authentic look. The grip is a contoured wooden handle wrapped completely in tightly wound dark metal wire for a secure hold. The dagger comes with a wooden-core sheath covered in smooth, reddish-brown leather, capped with a matching antiqued steel throat piece and a steel chape at the tip. The blade is steel with a full tang, and while it has no sharp edges, it is pointy. Please note: the dagger does not sit completely flush in the sheath. At 17.5 inches overall with an 11-inch blade, this is a well-made piece for collectors of historical fencing arms, Renaissance reproductions, or anyone who appreciates the craftsmanship of a classic main gauche.
