This is the Windlass Battlecry Orleans Battle Axe, a replica designed by Windlass Steelcrafts and inspired by the single-headed axes favored by cavalry and infantry during the Hundred Years' War. The head features a sharpened crescent cutting edge, a robust rear spike, and a prominent top thrusting point. The entire head is hand-forged from 1065 high-carbon steel and tempered to a hardness in the low 50s HRC for excellent durability and edge retention. The finish is a distinct darkened, battle-worn blued patina unique to the Battlecry line, providing an antique aesthetic while helping protect the carbon steel against rust and corrosion. The haft is crafted from blackened and turned stained hardwood. Long steel langets run down the sides of the shaft, pinned and riveted into the wood to secure the axe head and reinforce the upper handle against impact damage. The lower section features turned grooved detailing for a secure handhold, terminating in a decorative, contoured wooden pommel base.
