Description:
The bar mace is one of the most distinctive weapons of the medieval period—a design that relies on raw weight and blunt force rather than any cutting edge. This reproduction from Windlass Steelcrafts is modeled after historical 14th-century Italian and European designs, and it carries the same heavy, imposing presence as the originals. The striking head is the defining feature: a heavy, four-flanged metal bar constructed from two intersecting lengths of angled iron welded back-to-back to create a cross-shaped (X-shaped) cross-section. The metallic surface shows a raw, slightly polished finish with deep center channels running down each side. The edges are unsharpened, as the design relies entirely on blunt force rather than cutting. The hilt transitions directly from the steel bars into a cylindrical grip tightly wrapped in dark brown leather cords, creating deep ridges for a secure, textured hold. At the base, a heavy, highly polished spherical steel pommel serves as a counterweight to offset the front-heavy distribution of the striking bar, allowing for greater control when swinging. A thin black cord lanyard loops out from the center base of the pommel, ending in a small knot. This is a substantial, rare piece—ideal for collectors of medieval arms, historical reproduction enthusiasts, or anyone who appreciates the craftsmanship of a well-made bar mace.
