Before the age of gunpowder, the pole axe was the great equalizer—a brutal, efficient tool that allowed a common foot soldier to stand toe-to-toe with a mounted, armored knight. It gave the man on foot the reach to strike first and the crushing force to end the fight. Windlass Steelcrafts' Pole Axe is a faithful interpretation of a design discovered in a private collection. The head is forged from high carbon steel and features a wicked axe blade with a cross cutout for weight distribution and aesthetics. Opposite the blade, an armor-piercing back spike delivers devastating blunt force capable of caving in plate armor or shattering a shield. Rising from the top is a central spear point, allowing the weapon to be used as a short thrusting spear to penetrate armor. Steel langets run down the haft, reinforcing the wood against shearing blows and ensuring the head stays firmly in place. The head is securely mounted to a thick hardwood handle. This polearm is fully functional, rugged, and durable—a perfect addition to the collection of any historical re-enactor or Western Martial Artist.
