Description:
In 1935, the Imperial Japanese Army introduced the Type 95 sword for non-commissioned officers . Unlike the hand-forged blades of officers, these were mass-produced, machine-made weapons designed for durability and cost-effectiveness . They were issued to NCOs as a badge of rank and a tool of war, carried through the Pacific theater until the end of WWII. This replica by faithfully captures the spirit of the Type 95 Shin Gunto. The carbon steel blade features the slightly curved, single-edged profile with a single fuller running nearly its full length . While the original would have been machine-made and stamped with arsenal markings, this reproduction is well-constructed, tight, and solid—making it an excellent display piece for collectors or re-enactors . The cast brass handle replicates the look of traditional tsuka-ito wrapping, with brass pins and a functional locking mechanism that secures the blade in the scabbard . The olive-green painted metal scabbard features the distinctive hanging ring of the originals . The blade locks into the scabbard and the mechanism works as intended. There is a Japanese inscription on the blade. The blade is sharp but will benefit from a light touch-up. This is a functional, historically grounded replica, ready for display or use.Â
